This 5-day Mount Meru trekking adventure begins at the Momella gate (1500m) and ascends to the peak (4567m), where a ranger with an armada will accompany you. Along the route, you will go through a variety of environments, including alpine deserts, moorlands, and montane forests. Along the trip, there’s a possibility you’ll catch a glimpse of some of the wild creatures, like buffalos, elephants, zebras, antelopes, and white Colobus monkeys. The vistas are quite stunning.
After your arrival at the airport (Kilimanjaro or Arusha), your private driver-guide will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your accommodation, where you will meet your mountain guide for a briefing and equipment/gear check-up in preparation for your trekking.
You will have dinner and an overnight stay at your accommodation before your trekking starts the following day.
Accommodation at Ilboru Safari Lodge
Hiking time: 5-6 hours.
Distance: About 10 km.
Habitat: Montane forest
In the early morning after breakfast, you will be transferred from your accommodation to Arusha National Park and cleared of the formalities of entering the park. After that, you will start your trail accompanied by an armed ranger. A backpack is important for you to carry a few things that will be useful for the particular day of trekking, such as a camera, extra clothes, skin oil, a rain jacket, and other things that you will be directed to. Porters will carry other things for your climbing Mount Meru, such as food, drinking water, clothes, and cooking gas, and normally they walk faster than you so they can be in a position to prepare dinner for you on time. Along the way, you will see wild animals such as elephants, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, and antelopes. You will have dinner and an overnight stay at Miriakamba Hut.
Accommodation at Miriakamba Hut

Hiking time: 4-5 hours.
Distance: About 8 km
Habitat: forest and moorland.
In the morning, after your breakfast, you will start climbing towards the saddle below little Meru. You will be on a short trek, which is approximately 4-5 hours (a short day) but steep. You will slowly go through a lush mountain forest and arrive at "Elephant Ridge" on your way through the hike. From this point, you can enjoy an excellent view of the summit ridge and the crater floor.
After lunch, you may choose to hike up to the little Meru which is 3820m and takes approximately half an hour. This is best for acclimatization and if the weather permits you can have fantastic views of the Arusha National Park as well as Mount Kilimanjaro.
A warm meal awaits you at the huts.
Accommodation at Saddle Hut
Meal Plan: B, L & D
Hiking time: 12-15hrs
Distance: 5 km up and 12 km down
Habitat: Alpine desert moorland and montane forest
You will wake up early just after midnight for a light meal, then start your final ascent to the summit. The trail to the summit is steep and you will be climbing through gravel and rocky ridges. Whilst at the summit, you will enjoy stunning views of the Meru Crater and ash cone. Animals such as klipspringers and mountain reedbucks can be spotted over the rocky terrain. After taking pictures on the summit, you will descend back to Miriakamba Hut 2500m where you will be spending the night.

Hiking time: 5hrs
Distance: 14 km
Habitat: Montane forest
You will wake up for a warm and delicious breakfast before starting your descent to the Momella gate. On the way, you will pass through montane forests and the big fig tree where you can also take pictures. You will also encounter wild animals such as the Colobus monkeys, giraffes, buffalos as well and elephants. An armed ranger will always accompany you on your whole trek. Reaching the gate, you will have a farewell to the crew before driving back to Arusha which marks the end of your trek.
Accommodation: No accommodation but it can be arranged at extra costs.
