Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival and Transfer to Arusha
Arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by one of our guides, who will drive you to your accommodation in Arusha, where you will be able to relax after a long journey. Then prepare for your trekking experience in this active volcanic mountain.

Day 2
Lake Natron
We will drive you to Lake Natron, which is 70 kilometers from Arusha in the stunning and parched Rift Valley, after picking you up at your hotel at approximately 9:00 a.m. With the exception of flocks of flamingos that rise above the water in rosy color, this alkaline lake is unfriendly to most animals. More than two million individual lesser flamingos congregate in the lake each year, making it the main breeding habitat for these birds in East Africa. You can take in a lovely stroll around the lake and a breathtaking sunset after lunch. We recommend a late dinner and plenty of sleep the night before your midnight summit attempt.

Day 3
Ol Doinyo Lengai (2962 meters)
hiking time: eight to ten hours
To reach the summit of the volcano in time for the most breathtaking dawn you will likely ever witness in your life, you will set out on your journey shortly after midnight. A spectacular 360° panorama over Lake Natron and the incredibly amazing surrounding environment, which appears to be from Mars, awaits you at the summit of the extremely taxing 5-to 7-hour ascent. You'll need two to three hours to descend. Once at the destination, our driver will return you to your lodging for a well-earned night of rest, food, and relaxation.

Day 4
Walking at Lake Natron Shore
After breakfast, a Maasai guide will accompany you across the mudflats to the lake's southern shoreline, where you may observe flocks of lesser flamingos and take in the stunning lake views with Ol Doinyo Lengai towering above you. You will get beautiful photo opportunities on this stroll around the lake. Following your return to the camp, we will bring you back to Arusha after lunch. We are flexible in case our plans alter, but we aim to return to town by 4 p.m.
